Bull Elk in Bugle
The morning was as still as a pond on a hot summer night as the sunlight broke through the treeline. Off to my left, I could clearly see a bull elk making his way through the tall grass. The September rut was on, and all the bulls in the valley were on the lookout for cow elk to mate with. I brought my camera to my eye and began to fire off shot after shot. The massive creature before me suddenly stopped, tipped his head back, opened his massive jaws and let out a high pitched bugle call. There is simply nothing like this sound in the natural world and it is something I look forward to hearing every year.
